Prospect Park Police Nab Pair In Knifepoint Restaurant Robbery

PROSPECT PARK, N.J. – Prospect Park police identified and tracked down a man who they said robbed a local restaurant of $582 at knifepoint while using a juvenile as a lookout.

Malik Lyons, 18, of Atlantic City was arrested in Newark on Monday by Detective Walter Richmond and Officer Arthur Canestrino, who charged him with robbing the Cafecito restaurant on North 8th Street shortly before 7 p.m. last Thursday.

Richmond also identified the 16-year-old lookout, of Prospect Park, who he said been arrested before for similar incidents. The detective signed a delinquency complaint accusing the boy of robbery and conspiracy.

Lyons – who also was wanted on a warrant out of Atlantic County -- was charged with robbery, theft, making terroristic threats and weapons possession. He remained held in the Passaic County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Police Chief Charbel Atie praised the officers for their “swift and decisive actions” in catching both suspects, part of what he called a “never-ending pursuit to provide safety for our community.”
